Good Night from Galveston

Ahhh, Galveston. The poor man’s Mexico. At least, my Mexico – as Galveston is as close as I’ve ever been. I spent many a summer day on the shores of Galveston Island. It can be as beautiful as any coastal place I have been, given the right time of day and year. But, in general Galveston does not have the reputation of a place like Padre or Corpus. But, when you spend most of your time in a cold, land-locked state, the ocean is the ocean, and I like Galveston.

I don’t know how the rest of the world perceives Houston, because I grew up there, so my perception is skewed. I would be curious to know, when one thinks of Houston, if one immediately thinks how close it is to the ocean? For all its faults, Houston is a nice place to visit in December or January, and I’ve been only one or two places in the world where there is so many things growing all at once with seemingly no control. This thriving ecology is common in a humid subtropical climate, which means, in addition to being warmed by the winds from the deserts of Mexico, the City of Houston sits almost on top of the ocean.

… sorry, got distracted. more to come.
